MedTech Europe Releases Statement on Supply of Protective Medical Equipment

MedTech Europe, the European trade association for the medical technology industry of which Medline is a member, released a statement on 4 May 2020 to create more awareness about the general supply chain situation for protective medical equipment due to COVID-19, and the implications this situation has on supply and delivery.

The situation that MedTech Europe’s statement describes is exactly what Medline, and numerous other medical supply companies, is experiencing. The COVID-19 pandemic has created a shortage of vital goods like masks, gowns and gloves, while demand for them has skyrocketed. Airfreight capacity is limited, and fulfilling contractual delivery, volume and price conditions is no longer always possible.

MedTech recognises the extraordinary and temporary nature of this situation and offers three solutions for contractors to employ with their customers:

  • Request the review of the terms of the contract(s)
  • Invoke force majeure
  • Agree on an alternative arrangements.

Medline is looking very forward to being able to offer our standard products in a normal supply environment again, but in the meantime, we are working with our existing customers based on MedTech’s informed advice.
